The Teaching Programme

The English School of Business (ESB) Teaching Programme
All students are given their own copy of the course text. ESB is organising all seven core modules to be taught during one calendar year, split among three trimesters, as per published timetable.  That mode of studies is giving the students the opportunity of selecting relevant course to be attended as per the individual plans and capacities, allowing them to attend all seven core courses during three-year time period (with the possibility of failing to attend two trimesters because of any justifiable reason).

ESB Academic Support:
The students have to announce to ESB their readiness to select and attend any module at least one month before that module's lectures are is scheduled to commence.
In order to maintain required tuition and academic standards, the students have the right to evaluate the tutors and inform ESB about their conclusions accordingly.

Course Materials:
Each course comprises course materials containing all of the required course content. The course materials include, for each course, the course text, course website and, in some cases, CD-ROMs.

Course Texts:
The course texts contain all of the required content together with self-assessment exercises. The materials assume a zero-base knowledge of the subject.  There is no formal requirement for additional reading.  The course texts form the main resource for students and the teaching programme is built accordingly.

Course Websites
ESB have access to the course websites for all courses available through the ESB providing online learning resources developed by EBS. These include:

  1. Interactive questions that allow students to build a ‘Profile’ of their understanding of the concepts covered in each course;
  2. Downloadable simulations for Economics and Strategic Planning;
  3. Access to the latest relevant versions of the course texts
  4. Past examination papers.

The use of all course materials is subject to the provisions as to the intellectual property rights.

Online Resources:
ESB-based students may be registered on the relevant course websites so that a rich resource of knowledge can become available to them.  In this digital world the available options for online support may change so please check at the time of registration.

Order of Study:
Courses available are listed in the previous text. When planning the teaching programme, the following recommendations on order of study should be considered. All courses are written to be stand-alone so, in general, the order of study can be flexible.

However, to enhance students’ understanding of certain courses, it is recommended that a core course be taken before attempting its associated electives, e.g. Economics before Government, Industry and Privatisation, Finance before Financial Risk Management and Derivatives, Organisational Behaviour before Human Resource Management. It is also a strong recommendation that Strategic Planning is the final core course undertaken as this draws on concepts and knowledge provided in other core courses.

Study Hours
As a rough guide, each course requires approximately 200 study hours for completion. This time can vary accordingly to the student’s prior knowledge, experience and grasp of course concepts. The programme structure is as follows:

  1. 40 hours of taught sessions per course (in English language), depending on the course complexity (60 hours for the Accounting course);
  2. Up to 10 hours of tuition and tutorials per each course;
  3. Tutorial on-line support;
  4. Students’ individual work and independent self-study;
Provision for additional English language support (if required).
