The International Diploma in Project Management (IDPM)

Registration Form

The IDPM is a Post Graduate Level Qualification validated and awarded by University of Cambridge International Examinations at the academic equivalence level of Degree at PASS, and Masters at DISTINCTION. The program is the result of partnership between CIE (www.cie.org.uk) and 4cPM Ltd (www.4cpm.net).

Target Group

The International Diploma in Project Management - Professional Level is aimed primarily at management staff that currently undertake projects within their normal role and project managers who have responsibility for a particular project, also included are members of project teams, all of whom will produce naturally occurring evidence.

The assessment is essentially work-based, so a personal project must be agreed at the outset to facilitate the assessment process in the context of a ‘live’ project working as a member of a project team.
The Award has been developed through its stages in conjunction with leading members of the sector’s UK Professional Body – The Association for Project Management (APM) and The Project management Institute (PMI) and provides evidence towards professional membership as well as to other progression routes to other academic targets.

International Standards embodied within the IDPM

PRINCE2 is recognised as a world-class international product and is a standardised methodology for project management and provides a flexible and adaptable approach to suit all projects. It is a project management method designed to provide a framework covering the wide variety of disciplines and activities required within a project. A assessment pathway for PRINCE2 practioners to the IDPM has been identified.

Logical Framework Analysis (LogFRAME) is a project design and improvement tool contributing to the annual release of more than $25Bn of World-Bank and other bilateral and multilateral donor funding to world-wide development projects. Logframe is used during project planning to develop the overall design of a project. It is proven to improve project implementation planning, monitoring and evaluation and participatory planning. Its power depends on the degree to which it incorporates the full range of views of intended beneficiaries and others who have a stake in the project design.
Other International Standards enshrined within the IDPM

  • British Standard BS6079
  • The Association of Project Management (APM) Body of Knowledge (PMBOK)
  • The Institute of Project Managers (IPM) Body of Knowledge
  • Project Cycle Management

Self Study Candidates

Computer literacy and access to email are essential to the course delivery. This is not only essential to the process of communicating effectively with Learning Sets, but also in recognition to IT based project planning, the use of PM software and also the growing use of on-line project management services where project management is applied remotely and in some cases, the project manager never physically visits the project.
Email support will be available to IDPM learners from the delivery centre and www.4cpm.net . Responses to email queries will be placed on www.4cpm.net or responses will be made directly back to the learner.

Candidate on-line support

Candidate will receive a unique user name and password on registration which will give full access to the on-line 4cPM download areas. These interactive sections of the 4cPM web site reflect the syllabus, containing all the IDPM standards / areas of competence. The web site address to log on is www.4cpm.net

Length of Study

Most candidates will complete the IDPM programme in approximately 450 hrs of direct and indirect study in one year. Some students with advanced skills, underpinning knowledge and project evidewnce may complete quicker. The core of the programme is three Seminars of 18 Guided Learning Hours each (up to 54 guided learning hours). Each seminar is designed to prepare candidates for a specific externally examined assignment.

Access to email/on-line support for the full duration of the IDPM Programme. Responses to email queries will be posted to the IDPM Website.

Three Assignments with approximately 75 self-study hours per assignment (up to 225 hrs).

Project File developed in the workplace as part of normal working practice (up to 100 hours). The Project File is used to support the Assignments, but is not externally assessed.

One to One Tutorials (Approx. 10 hours). All tutorials are formally structured to pro-actively support the externally examined assignment submissions.

Specific subject workshops (up to 54 guided learning hours). These are negotiated by local delivery centres with each group according to specific needs.

The IDPM Programmes are designed as flexibly as possible, including seminars, tutorials and workshops, over the duration of approximately one year to complete three assignments. IDPM assignments contain approximately 300 indirect study hours to compile and also maintain a working Project File. Indirect study hours are likely to integrated with normal working time.
